The inception of The Indiana
Rebels Swing Dance Club occurred on September 22, 2002 with a very
successful kickoff dance at the Indianapolis Ballroom Company on the cities
northwest side.
After several years of
traveling and visiting various dance clubs in the Midwest, in particular the
Chicago Rebels, Don and Jean wanted to begin a Rebels Swing Dance Club in
the Indianapolis area.
Since they already are in
the DJ business, as well as Dance Instructors, they felt they had the
foundation for starting a club.
They love the idea of dance
clubs for the reason of exposing people to dancing (in particular West Coast
Swing) and also all of the music (Don's forte') that can be played for West
Coast Swing Dancing.
The socialization aspect
(Jean's favorite) of dancing is endless. New friendships are beginning every
club date. Besides the obvious benefit of learning to dance, dancing offers
great exercise, new-found friendships, and involvement in a "dance family".
Of all of the positive ingredients mentioned, the most rewarding ones for
Don and Jean are the friendships they have developed along the way. Here's
what Don and Jean have to say about their interest:
"We have been couple dancing since January 1993 and hosting as Disc Jockeys
and Emcees since 1998. I’ll bet you can’t guess where we came up with the
name "DANCIN’ DJ’s" can you? We thoroughly enjoy both facets of our
profession. Our interest in dance began with Line Dancing, Cha Cha, Waltz,
2 Step, East Coast Swing, and Polka. Finally West Coast Swing caught our
eye and all the other dances fell by the wayside."
"We teach West Coast Swing, Night Club Two Step, East
Coast Swing and Country Two Step both privately and in group
environments. We have lived in Columbus, Indiana since 1983 and commute
to Indianapolis for various dance and DJ functions. The Disc Jockey end
of our profession includes wedding receptions, parties, and reunions as
well as Swing Dance events."
